Buy Digital Cameras - Be Informed When You Buy Digital Cameras

Now is the time to buy digital cameras.  They are more affordable than ever, and the number of features and picture quality keeps going up.  Some people may be confused the first time the look to buy a digital camera.  There are so many models, features, and accessories out there.

It may be hard to know which model suits you best.  If you are going to spend time and money on a digital camera, you should be informed about what you are looking at.  With a few pointers here, you will be well on your way to choosing the perfect camera for you and your family.

One of the first things to look at when you buy digital cameras is the battery life.  The most expensive cameras may not always have the longest battery life.  In fact, there are plenty of cheaper cameras available that actually outlast the fancier models.  Check to see how long the batteries are expected to last per charge.  A solid battery is crucial if you want to get the most out of your digital camera.  Next you should look at the number of megapixels.

This will determine the degree of detail that you get with each picture.  The bare minimum these days is around 2 or 3 megapixels for a camera.  Better cameras will have ranges around 5 to 10 megapixels.  The number of pixels directly translates to the fine detail of your photos.  Lower numbers are fine for snapshots and email.  However, if you want to make large prints or special duplicates, then you should get a camera with at least 5 or more megapixels.

From here, you should check the zoom lens features.  A lot of people who buy digital cameras neglect to take the time to check out these features.  Still, you will want a camera with a good optical zoom range.  Optical zoom means that the camera lens actually zooms in and out as you focus on the subject.

Digital zoom is different, and refers to the digital magnification of an image.  This results in poor image quality, so look at the optical range rather than the digital range.  The standard for most camera users should be 3x optical zoom and up.

Finally, it is a good idea to test out the user control interface when you buy digital cameras.  Most people just want a compact device that is easy to point and shoot pictures.  The key is to find a camera that does not confuse you.

Ease of use is a big deal.  Look at all the features available in terms of tweaking photo settings and reviewing pictures on the LCD screen.  Once you find a camera that you feel comfortable with, you are good to go.  Buying a digital camera shouldn't be that hard after all.
